Entry rule

All of these must be true on the same day:

  • RSI(14) crosses above 30.

Exit rule

It exits when all of these are true:

  • RSI(14) crosses below 70.

It also exits if price falls 10% below the entry (the stop-loss), or after 90 days at most.

The idea behind it

Momentum rules look for a stock whose recent moves are strong or turning up, using indicators such as RSI or MACD, and take part while the strength lasts.

The bet it makes

It bets that strength keeps building once a stock has started to move.

When it tends to struggle

Momentum can fade quickly. A rule that buys strength may buy just before the move runs out, and in a sideways market the signals flip back and forth.
